Our Viking Ocean Cruise began seamlessly with Viking Air, where we were met in Bergen and effortlessly whisked to the Viking Saturn, our home for the next 15 days. Check-in was quick and efficient, and while our luggage made its way to our stateroom, we enjoyed a light bite and a beverage at the buffet before setting out to explore this beautiful ship.

One of the joys of sailing with Viking is how seamlessly they blend travel with learning. Every port offered an included shore excursion, with plenty of optional tours for those wanting to dive deeper. Our guides, often locals, were proud storytellers who brought their towns and traditions to life. Each afternoon, we gathered for an onboard talk preparing us for the next day’s destination, and every evening, the Viking Daily provided a roadmap of onboard activities and clear instructions for the following day’s excursions.
Dining onboard quickly became part of the rhythm of the voyage. With several restaurants to choose from, meals were relaxed yet refined, often featuring local flavors inspired by the regions we visited. Days were comfortably casual, while evenings invited elegant casual attire—just enough polish to feel special without ever feeling formal.
Evening entertainment followed dinner. While not the grand spectacle of larger ships, the performances were intimate and enjoyable. For those wanting to extend the night, Torshavn was the perfect gathering spot. With only 995 passengers, the atmosphere felt relaxed and social, making it easy to connect with fellow travelers and share stories. Time at the spa was a must—especially after full days of exploration.
Our group of ten often went our separate ways during the day but made it a point to reconnect for a pre-dinner drink whenever possible. It was the perfect balance of independence and camaraderie.
This journey exceeded expectations, and I’m already looking forward to our next adventure—a Viking river cruise from Lyon to Provence.
